“In Mauritius, we attach significant importance to both regional integration and capacity development and, in my view, these two go hand in hand in as much as we are proponents of brain circulation,” said the President of the Republic, Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, on 8 March 2016 in Ebène.

She was speaking at the second Annual Presidential Lecture organised by the Africa Training Institute (ATI) on the theme ‘Africa’s Regional Integration – Moving from Rhetoric to Facts’. In her address, President Gurib-Fakim expressed belief that it is only when human capacity is increased and empowered with the necessary tools and the appropriate enabling environment that sustained economic growth can be brought about as well as enable the economy to attain a high-income status. For this to happen, we have to inevitably shift our economic and production structure towards sectors with higher value added, she pointed out.
