Zaheeya Malekzadeh: “I turned my passion into a business”

Cupcakes, anniversary cakes, Indian sweets and many others….That’s the specialty of Delish Cakes Creationz. Specialised in baking, Zaheeya Malekzadeh, 28, is a multi-talented mother of two awesome kids. Cooking has always been a passion for her. As she puts it, her philosophy is: if it’s not tasty and does not impress it’s not worth to be called a pastry.  Having travelled a lot (She studied in Damelin, South Africa and also spent time in India and Iran, among others), this young lady brings a fusion of tastes in her pastries. Passionate about cookery, she has always had this will to learn more from other cultures and create her own dishes. When asked where this passion came from, she simply replies: “I had an amazing teacher who inspired me during my teenage years”. Her cakes are not only fluffy, moist and fresh but she also does all the decorations herself, with interesting creativity. Setting up this business and bringing satisfaction to customers has always been her motivation. “I’ve never met a problem a proper cupcake couldn’t fix.” Sarah Ockler, Bittersweet “Cooking is an art that few can master. There is that sort of satisfaction that one may feel when designing and decorating a cake from scratch to finish,” she exclaims. In fact, she firmly states that it’s not about working but about nurturing the passion. However, things are not always as rosy as one may think. “Bringing new savours here is complicated. Not only is the cost of the ingredients high but also that of baking tools,” she reveals. She further adds that there are certain ingredients that are not available in Mauritius and if available, they are not of good quality. Why Delish Cake Creationz? Choosing this name has been really symbolic for her. “Delish Cake Creationz has been a way of bringing a smile on people’s faces. My highlight of the day is when I see that big smile on my client’s face.
