Mauritius Telecom has once more made profits exceeding the one billion rupees mark.
These figures should be included in the company’s annual report and be announced next week. Mauritius Telecom (MT) has made a profit of Rs 1.02 billion in 2015, compared to Rs 990 million in 2014. The operating revenue of the company stands at Rs 9.8 billion and capital expenditure at Rs 2.4 billion.
The last time MT made over Rs1 billion profit was in 2013 with Rs 1.4 billion. Revenues of the telecom operator increased by 8.1% during the year. The aggressive campaign of discounted rates has paid off with a 7.2% increase in the number of mobile subscribers. In December 2015, MT had 892,097 subscribers.
Regarding the improvement of its Internet network, the telecom company wants to move to the next level with the installation of optical fibre across the country. An amount of Rs 5.1 billion will thus be injected into the project by 2017. Mauritius Telecom has also engaged in social projects. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the group has handed out Rs 35.5 million for 34 projects to some 26 non-governmental organisations.
