ODE TO ALL MOTHERS

The proclamation Matri Devo Bhava spells out that sons and daughters should worship the mother- pay tribute to her, during her lifetime, for her merits: such worship is in the form of devoted service to keep her happy. Let her never be treated harshly!

The world is also made with thorns but the mother symbolizes the garden of flowers. She is the best support for her child. She symbolizes light within the household and the Vedas as well as modern science recognizes ‘the lap of a Mother as the greatest University of the world.’

Dear Mother
Your love is as sacred and pure as the holy Bible.
Nobody is greater than you.
You are the very benediction of my worship.
In your shadow, soft and tender resides my heaven.
Your lap is more precious than all the gems of the world.
You confined me within you for nine months, thereafter carried me and fed me.
You had borne all the brunt, shocks and attacks of my life.
You formed the most powerful and protective belt during my infancy, childhood and adolescence.
You cared more for me than for yourself and my father.
I always ran to you for support and protection when I faced strong attacks.
You had been entrusted with the impossible, including bringing my father back to reason.
You were the last to sleep and first to wake up.
You always- cared for me before looking for yourself, kept me warm before covering yourself, and quenched my thirst first and drank last if any was left.
You sipped your tears and wiped ours to create a heaven for us.
You buried your sorrows to cheer us.
Like the lamp burning itself to illuminate the path of others, you provided light to me, my sisters and brothers.
You remain the heart, that neither hits nor hurts.
