‘Douloureuse Beauté’: A colourful exhibition by Emilien Jubeau

One of the most promising artistic directors of the island is back with another colourful solo exhbition. Emilien Jubeau will take you into his world full of pain and beauty through ‘Douloureuse Beauté’ taking place at the Hennessy Park Hotel until 16 June. 

He speaks the language of colours and tells tales of art to nurture our imagination. Emilien Jubeau, the well-known local artist who has won various awards in the past, is back with a colourful and powerful solo exhibition. Douloureuse Beauté (Painful Beauty) was created from a flow of influences marked by the artist’s encounters. Through his different relationships, affinities and true chemistry, Emilien takes the public on a journey to his intimacy, amidst sorrow and bliss. 

The one-month creation is thus a profound exploration of the artist’s world. “It is a process during which I pull everything out of my soul. Only to explode… From my joys to my fears. From dreams to nightmares,” explains Emilien. Douloureuse Beauté is also “an expedition in one’s heart of hearts, opening doors to mysterious places. Bringing in light the shadows in order to ferret essential truth.”

His arts pieces, as he explains, are “a body of expression. A body of work exploiting various artistic disciplines! Paintings conversing with the surroundings… An exchange of words, a whisper of the audio-visual media… And music as a performance.” 

Emilien, who has contributed to major projects, in particular, the 45th and 49th anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius, Tikoulou, Phantom of Opera, Porlwi by Light, Eclosia, also confides that through ‘Douloureuse Beauté’, he is sharing his universe with the people. “It is an introspection into my inner self. An exploration between serenity and unrest… Is pain not a step towards beauty? A sine qua non duality which shines in my shadow… A process which is both physical and organic…” 

Artist in Evazyon to the author of the artistic project Zarbiens, as well as his plastic explosion with Zanimo, Emilien is a free spirit artist who is not shy to use any type of material and surface for his creations. His art is a creation process where everything blends together, shapes up and distorts to finally achieve one result. Emilien pays much attention to detail. This approach of exploring various paths to find his way enables the latter to break free, to find himself and to express himself.

Douloureuse Beauté is open to the public until 16 June at the Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebène. An exhibition not to be missed!
