He wrote the following: “I assure you I am innocent in this case (rape) at Mahebourg. My lawyers do know how to fight my case. I’m explaining it; you do not want to understand anything.” The alleged murderer, who is from Reunion Island, was arrested after a Mauritian accused him of rape in May. He was released on bail. “All this is unimaginable. I know this man for nine years. He is a gentle and kind man. I cannot believe he could harm anyone. When my mother learned his involvement with the police, she agreed to welcome him in our house,” the victim’s sister revealed. The mother of Wendina Narayasami told the police that the religious man was at home on Tuesday. “Around 16 h 30, he invited me to meet two persons from Reunion Island. Back home at around 17 hours, I made the gruesome discovery. Wendina was stabbed with a sharp weapon. Two knives were found on the roof of the house,” she added. The autopsy performed on Wednesday by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin and Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, head of the forensic department, attributed the death to a slash wound to the neck.
