Mario Nobin: “I shall be ruthless against errant officers who do not honour the profession”

The Mauritius Police Force celebrated its 251st anniversary on Wednesday 1st August 2018 with a ceremonial parade at the Line Barracks followed by the presentation of the President’s Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to 49 police officers; a promotion exercise where ten sergeants were promoted as sub-inspectors and 160 constables as corporals.

The Commissioner of Police, Mario Nobin underlined that the Mauritius Police Force is one of the oldest in the region and that have in its midst loyal and dedicated officers, who are equipped with the required skills and experience, thus contributing in the maintenance of public peace and security, and they remain the guardians of our social harmony.

However, the Commissioner did not forget to mention police officers who do not honour the profession. He stressed upon the need to be ruthless against such errant officers, as the country deserves police officers of high integrity and whose conduct inspire public confidence.

He also added that in view of transforming the organization into one where in addition to conventional policing roles, he wants to empower officers to become effective leaders in community policing. Accordingly, he is reengineering the community policing framework by increasing neighbourhood officers, build their capacity and equip them with the relevant tools in order to establish networks within the community. He wants to keep criminals at bay, dismantle drug trafficking and to tackle crimes and anti-social behavior.
