Six fresh produce exporters are participating in a three-day annual event, Fruit Logistica, which is taking place from 3 to 5 February 2016 at Messe, Berlin. The Mauritian exporters will showcase a range of products such as pineapples, avocados, litchis, breadfruits, passion fruits and palm hearts. Enterprise Mauritius will be leading the delegation for the fifth year to the fair. It will provide a high profile platform for Mauritian exporters to showcase their products to over 67,000 visitors.
Fruit Logistica covers every sector of the fresh produce market and is an ideal platform for familiarising with latest innovations and trends in technology, products and services at every link in the international supply chain. It also offers an excellent networking opportunity to key decision-makers in the fresh produce industry. In 2015, over 65,000 persons from 135 countries attended the fair.
In line with government’s policy to diversify exports, Enterprise Mauritius has been supporting exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables to penetrate new markets. This initiative has helped the emergence of a strong export-oriented fresh produce sector. In 2014, fresh produce exports reached Rs 172.4 million. The main exports were Victoria pineapples (Rs 117.2 million), litchis (Rs 45.2 million), avocados (Rs 566,617), and other exotic fruits such as passion fruit, jack fruit, breadfruit and others.
According to the CEO of Enterprise Mauritius, Arvind Radhakrishna, the aim of taking Mauritian companies to Fruit Logistica is to provide an affordable way for exporters to connect with leading importers in the industry, and to provide visibility to Mauritius as a sourcing destination. Following participation in Fruit Logistica 2015, local exporters have been able to penetrate new markets such as Russia, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Latvia, and Belgium.
