A unique African passport

As from July 10, African governments will be discussing the creation of an African passport for free visa access to the 54 member countries of the African Union including Mauritius. This project is the main subject of the discussions of the AU summit to be held from July 10 to 16 in Kigali, capital of Rwanda. The AU hopes to implement this measure by 2018. However, some countries want, for technical and administrative reasons, to postpone the use of this electronic passport for 2020. The project aims to facilitate the free movement of people, goods and services on the continent, to promote intra-African trade, integration and socio-economic development.
