More than 30 companies are participating in the job fair that is being held until this Saturday at the CyberTower 1, in Ebene Cybercity. Which companies are recruiting? In which fields? For which positions? What are the salaries and commissions offered? News On Sunday reports.
If you are looking for a job, head to Ebene Cybercity. The Business Parks of Mauritius (BPML) CyberTower1 is the place to be for job seekers until Saturday as 3,000 jobs are up for grabs. Since Thursday, companies from different economic sectors have been on the ground floor of the building to advertise their openings. Regardless of your academic qualifications and experience, there will be something of interest.
Rajeshsingh Gungah, CEO of Seven 7 Event & Marketing Co Ltd, which organised the job fair, points out that after the success of previous fairs organised at Trianon, Bagatelle, Rose Belle and Flacq, they have decided this time to organise this event in Ebène. This place, he believes, is the landmark of the business world and the world of work in Mauritius.
“In all, there are around 2,500 to 3,000 vacant posts to be filled,” he says. The recruiting companies operate in fields such as BPO, accounting, tourism, global business, customer care, among others. The CEO highlights that more that 10,000 visitors are expected to come to the fair from Thursday to Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Vishal Radha, HR Consultant at Orange Business Services: “We are targeting mostly young graduates”
According to Vishal Radha, there are currently over 100 vacancies at Orange Business Services. “The jobs vary from back office staff such as customer facing, customer support officers to engineers in networking, cloud application specialists, among others,” he says. The company is also looking for people to work in the messaging and security department. “We are targeting mostly young graduates who will, however, have to follow some training to be able to work in the company,” says Vishal. The latter points out that all candidates should be qualified in the IT field. As far as salaries are concerned, they vary according to the qualifications and experience of the recruit.Aélys Leroy-Legrand, Recruitment Coordinator at First Communication: “Commissions up to Rs 50,000 per month”
Established in Mauritius since five years, First Communication is a contact centre. “We work for mostly francophone countries. We carry out surveys, inquiries and take appointments. We also provide services in regard to medical assistance and facilities over the phone or email,” she points out. Currently, the company is looking for around 35 to 40 teleagents. The targeted candidates are SC and HSC holders who need to be very fluent in spoken and written French. “The candidates should also be dynamic and, most importantly, motivated,” says Alélys. Transport and medical insurance are also provided. Regarding basic salaries, they vary from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. “Moreover, agents can fetch commissions of up to Rs 50,000 per month”, she highlights.Usha Ramdhany from Law and Management Business School (LMBS): “Students who are interested in distance learning”
The job fair does not only include the participation of companies which are recruiting but also universities and business schools. Usha Ramdhany from LMBS states that the school is specialised in distance learning. “We are situated in Castel and we offer courses so that Mauritians can pursue their studies through distance learning or they can complete the courses abroad at our partner universities in Portugal, Hungary, Poland and North America,” she notes. The latter states that discounts are offered on air tickets and accommodation. The first intake is scheduled for August.Rebecca, Human Resources Officer at Outremer Telecom: “Salaries range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 18,000”
Some companies have more than a hundred jobs on offer. Among them is Outremer Telecom. Rebecca, its Human Resources Officer, emphasizes that Outremer Telecom intends to recruit 500 persons. “The positions are customer advisers, hotliners, technicians, trainers and supervisors,” she says. Basic salaries, she adds, range from Rs 8,000 and Rs 18,000 per month. “Employees who are performing efficiently will also be rewarded with bonuses ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 1,500 for productivity and punctuality respectively,” she adds. To be able to work for the company, a candidate has to hold at least an SC. However, she points out that the candidates should have very good communication skills and should be ready to work odd hours. Transport facilities are also available.Nishma Dawoolet, Recruitment Analyst at Accenture: “We need to fill 150 vacant positions”
At Accenture, there are about 150 vacancies. Nishma Dawoolet, Recruitment Analyst, points out that in the operations department, there are around 50 to 60 vacant posts. “In the department of technology, we are recruiting about 75 people until the end of August,” she says. The minimum qualification required to work the accounting field, she says, is HSC and ACCA Level 1. “Regarding the technology department, a diploma is the minimum required,” she continues.Dave Dawoolet, Director of International Cruise Recruitment Services: “Rs 35,000 to Rs 135,000 to work on cruises”
Among companies specialising in accounting and BPO, we also come across a company which is recruiting Mauritians to work on cruises. Its director, Dave Dawoolet, is looking for around 600 persons to work on board cruise ships. “We are looking for people to work in the kitchen and restaurant in the Costa Cruise. These includes cooks, barmen, waiter, and waitresses, among others. Beauticians and photographers are also sought,” he says. For salaries, he says, they range from Rs 35,000 to Rs 135,000 per month.
