“Having reviewed our plan of action last year, we have set priorities: The 2017 JCI Mauritius Board member and Local Presidents and members of JCI Mauritius family are mandated to implement same to achieve goals set for 2018. The plan is here. We have only to implement and act now. JCI Mauritius has a rich history and I cannot step forward without expressing my gratitude to the 32 Leaders of the organization, as they each have contributed to where we stand today. In 2017, focus is being laid on ‘Providing development opportunities’, ‘creating impact’, ‘sustainability’ and ‘continuity. Having all five local organisations being represented on the 2017 JCI Mauritius National Board, we are working together and share our experiences gathered to “IMPACT as One”, ensuring that development opportunities are being provided for our members to Be Better,” she says.

Different projects

There are different projects at local level being conducted to tackle community challenges and finding sustainable solution.

JCI Mauritius Active Citizens Framework Workshop

At JCI Mauritius, there will be the JCI Mauritius Active Citizens Framework Workshop. This workshop shall be a platform to unite all sectors of society namely other NGOs, Community leaders, partners, collaborators and Government agencies to showcase and share the fabulous work we are each doing individually and to analyse the impact of our actions and how to tackle community challenges in finding sustainable solution in tackling Global Goals.

31st edition of JCI Mauritius The Outstanding Young Person (TOYP) Awards

JCI Mauritius TOYP awards formally recognized young individuals who excel in their chosen path and who are seen as role models by the younger generation. By recognizing these young people, JCI raises the status of socially responsible leaders in this world. The honorees motivate their peers to seek excellence and serve others. Their stories of discovery, determination and ingenuity inspire young people to be better leaders and create better societies.

JCI Mauritius Creative Young Entrepreneur Awards (CYEA)

Entrepreneurs make a difference. They not only have great ideas, but also the drive to make them a reality. They use their fresh thinking and hard work to create positive social change- bringing new concepts and products to market, and creating jobs and wealth. The JCI Mauritius CYEA award recognizes creative young entrepreneurs, aged between 18-40 years who have started a new business using creativity in product development, service development and in their approach to the market. Or, they have taken an existing business and incorporated creativity to solve a problem or change a process to create positive change in their business operation.

Peace is Possible Campaign

2017 will focus on the advocacy of Peace is Possible. “In a world filled with violence, terrorism and injustice, to many the idea of peace has become merely just a vision as these unsettling acts continue to affect innocent people in communities around the globe. Violence serves as a reminder of how relevant and necessary peace is in today’s society,” she explains. The Peace is Possible campaign seeks to foster an environment where shared collaboration and open dialogue occur between all sectors of society, making peace more than just a vision — but a possibility.

The campaign mobilizes young people worldwide to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace. The worldwide adoption of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development is just one step toward achieving this peace. It will take the collaborative effort of active citizens everywhere, working to advance these 17 goals, to make peace possible. The international Peace week will be organised in the month of September culminating with Peace is Possible day on the 21st September 2017.

Let’s Do It! Foundation Focus: Environment

JCI Mauritius will be working on the “Lets Do It” project. This collaboration will unite communities and engage 5% of the world’s population for a common goal of a cleaner and healthier world leading up to Global Clean Up Day on September 8, 2018. We will raise awareness of the growing global waste problem in local communities worldwide, while also providing opportunities for young people to develop as active citizens in order to create a cleaner and greener society. We also have personal skills development training and projects like debate championship and public speaking competition to empower members and youngsters to create positive change.

Impact the life of youth and the population

According to the President, there are no simple solutions to current global challenges. “No single entity can make any significant progress alone. JCI Mauritius aims at uniting all sectors of society, ensures that an informed public identifies the root causes, formulate sustainable solutions and then mobilize community stakeholders to build a more peaceful and prosperous Mauritius. In doing so, JCI Mauritius will empower young people to become active citizens today, growing into the leaders of their communities tomorrow,” she avers.
