He possesses all the qualities of a great artist. With his sharp eyes, patience and incredible pencil stroke, 26 year-old Warren Goribe is climbing the ladder of success in the art world. Since a very young age, Warren was attracted by this satirical version of Art.

Basically, caricatures are well-known for laying emphasis and exaggerating some physical characteristics. They can be very insulting sometimes. As an art that speaks louder than words, this type of drawing has been greatly favoured to tackle political and social issues in a funny way. However, Warren Goribe reveals that all these aspects have not pulled him towards caricature style, but only the self-acceptance that lies behind the distorting effects. According to him, youngsters are more concerned about their physical appearance and there is this desire for plastic surgery. Therefore, exaggerating these traits that displease them can help them in developing self-acceptance. “I found out that people love their funny aspect when they see the drawings. It’s true that it is weird and does not make sense, but caricatures really help some people to love their physical flaws. Some even set these satirical drawings as their profile picture,” advocates Warren. Besides, he adds that caricatures can be easily and quickly drawn within ten minutes, while a portrait may take hours.

Satirical artist

The young man is surely very talented. He already had a good pencil stroke at a very young age and was often approached by his classmates to do their portraits or other drawings. Still as a child, he seized opportunities and took part in various drawing and art contests where he won prizes. Nonetheless, the real adventure began at high school. Warren points out that he enjoyed doing caricatures of his teachers and bosses: “I used to draw them in funny ways!” That is his first move as a satirical artist.

When his mother noticed his works, she decided that Warren should develop this talent and this is how the promising artist attended the MGI institution and followed fine arts courses. “One day my mother came across my drawings and she thought that I got talent. She encouraged me to follow courses in fine arts. I developed my own style there by merging what I’ve been taught with my personal touch. This is how I came to personalise my pencil stroke,” declares Warren Goribe.

Participation in events

The young caricaturist has participated in events like ‘Porlwi By Light’ and China Town Festival. “It was really exciting that they thought of me. I considered these opportunities as the most enriching experiences,” exclaims Warren. Even if he was born as a Picasso, he reveals that he has gone through a lot of preparations before taking part in the Porlwi By Light 2016. Warren Goribe has surfed the net, looking for techniques and satirical drawings. “I investigated a great deal on the subject, because I wanted it to be perfect since this Porlwi By Light would have been my first event,” he argues. Moreover, all of his models beamed after finding their caricature version. And this is the feeling of satisfaction behind the works: “I am proud each time the models show their contentment towards my art. And I like promoting my masterpieces on Facebook so that everyone can come across them.”

So if you feel bad about yourself because you think you are not terribly good looking, caricaturist Warren Goribe has the solution with a piece of paper and pencil to make you love yourself.
